For some families flowers are a very important part of saying good bye to their loved one, however they are not an essential requirement and some families choose not to have floral tributes at all. There are many different shapes and sizes of arrangements available to accommodate all tastes and we can guide you through the process of deciding the most appropriate type of arrangement for your family.
In order to assist you in this we have an account with the florist based in Cottingham Village centre and are happy to liaise with them on your behalf. Alternatively, if you prefer you can make your own arrangements with your favourite florist who will deliver your flowers to our premises prior to the funeral service.
Many families choose to ask for donations to their favourite charity in lieu of flowers. Details of this can be included in any newspaper announcement and collection boxes can be placed at the place of worship.
Traditionally family and friends sent floral tributes as a mark of respect for the person who has passed away, however it has become more popular for the family to arrange for a floral tribute to be displayed on the coffin during the service and then ask for donations in lieu of flowers to a charity or charities of their choosing.
Donations can be made in a number of ways, a collection box can be made available at the service for mourners to use. After the service it will then be sealed and handed directly to the family for them to pass onto the charity or charities of their choosing.
In addition details of charities can be published in an Order of Service, in an announcement online or in a newspaper. Friends and family can then make a donation directly to the chosen charity at a convenient time for them.
If you have chosen a service that includes a burial in an existing grave we will arrange with a local stonemason to remove the headstone on your behalf in preparation for the service to take place. Following the service you will be able to liaise with them regarding any additional subscription or cleaning that may be required.
Please find below the details of stonemasons we use.
We can assist you in choosing and preparing funeral stationery. Order of Services, or hymn sheets as they are sometimes referred to, are very popular and can be an aide to ensuring the smooth running of the funeral service. Each order of service is bespoke and designed and created according to the wishes and tastes of your family.
Their content can vary a great deal, often including the words to a hymn, titles of favourite musical pieces, details of who is speaking during the service and information for the mourners regarding which charity will be receiving their donations and an invitation to join the family for refreshments afterwards.
Photographs of the deceased are often incorporated in the design, along with images of favourite flowers or animals.
In addition, we can supply matching bookmarks, thank you cards and announcement cards. We use a local printer who will create your individual stationery using information and photographs provided yourselves. There are many different options available and to assist you please find below images of different formats and a sample of an order of service.
If you prefer you can arrange to have your own order of services printed or design and produce your own. Once again, we will assist you in any way, we can to help you achieve your desired outcome.
Each family have their own idea of how they would like to celebrate the life of their loved one. We can provide you with a wide range of choice for the type of service you would like and arrange for a professional minister or celebrant to conduct the funeral service for you should you wish so. We can provide you with Ministers of Religion from all denominations including Church of England, Roman Catholic, Methodist, United Reformed and many others.
In addition if you require a non religious service we have a number of Celebrants who can provide this service for you and your family. If you do not wish to hold a formal service we will help you arrange and conduct a respectful and meaningful farewell to your loved one.

If you would like to place a newspaper announcement, we can guide you and organise the placing of the announcement on your behalf. It can be very difficult to find the right words to say and in order to assist you please find below an example of a typical announcement. We do recommend that you don’t include in your announcement details of the venue for any refreshments to follow, instead families often provide these details in an order of service or via an announcement at the service.
